Details take time

We have been making progress lately, but it seems like the finishing details take so long. The nook is 90% done. Nick has to make the drawer fronts, we need to paint the windows, and then do a final coat of varnish and paint on the entire nook. The last thing will be to pick out a light fixture, but that will be a quick project.

We painted the hallway this weekend and Nick stripped the trim work for the doors. Hopefully by next weekend we’ll be ready to install the trim. The motivation for finishing that quickly is that Atticus loves to play with the pocket doors and I want to prevent him from smashing his fingers. (It will also help keep the cats downstairs & hopefully Chloe will figure out it’s not worth trying to get in and will stop trying to open the door.)

We watched the video that goes with the Concrete Countertop book and ordered all the supplies for the kitchen countertops. Nick’s parents are coming into town in a few weeks and he and his dad are going to work on the countertops. I’ll have to have a good-bye party for our old kitchen cabinet doors that have been serving as our counters for so long. Maybe I’ll salvage the wood and use it to make a toy box for Atticus. We can’t just throw them away after they’ve served us so well!

Don’t count on the cat not attempting to open the door when the work is done. Just expect some claw marks along the sides nad undersides.
