Honey, It's a kitchen!
This weekend saw a couple of long-standing projects get crossed off the list:
First, I installed the vents for the kitchen drain and the laundry-room drain. These 1 1/2” ABS pipes run up one of the kitchen walls, then cross the ceiling inside one of the soffets. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but every time I attempt plumbing projects the result is several trips to the HD. This time I buckled down and went once (okay, twice) and bought a lot of fittings that I probably wont need. The leftovers will be returned soon.
Second, I plumbed the upstairs bath with PEX and removed the single remaining original DHW line that we’d left in place. This means that our toilet upstairs now is fed with cold water, not hot. YAY! And, it fills quickly - the old line was so filled with rusty plaque that it took half an hour for enough water to pass through and fill the tank after a flush. I’m glad we weren’t drinking that stuff.
We also decided it was high time to reorganize our kitchen rack. The rack is a mobile wire rack that we bought at the outset of this remodel. It’s 48” wide and about 6’ tall, on wheels. We have had it loaded with everything we need to cook and eat: plates, silverware, pots & pans, baking supplies - you name it and we have something on the rack that will suffice. Over time however it’s become a random jumble of crap. Trissa intended to attack this mess today and reorganize the rack, and I suggested we go one step further. So this afternoon we emptied the rack and moved it into the future pantry. In its former place next to the stove I constructed a new (temporary) countertop that is a glimpse of things to come. The beauty is that we have an extra 5 feet of counterspace now - very luxurious. Trissa’s making Sunday dinner (& desert!) right now and I think she’s in heaven:

In any event, I’m looking forward to a week from now. I’m taking the week of Thanksgiving off from work to get some real progress done - 5 entire days worth before we leave for Madison for Thanksgiving with the fam. I gotta get busy with a plan!

Looking good, guys! We ran out of money and stopped production on our kitchen plans, so for now we’re living vicariously through you ;)

I really like your new appliances.
I went to 2nd Use last weekend, but all I found there was junk. There was a 3 year old washer-drier set, but anything else was just rusting junk. Is there a trick to 2nd Use, like a ‘call list’ for certain items, or does one have to visit that place every day to look at their new stuff?

I think the trick is stopping by frequently. They do post new items on their website, but I think the good stuff goes quickly. We’ve seen a couple of Subzero fridges since we found ours, but I haven’t seen any more Vikings. I’m not sure if they have a call list or not. Since the transfer station is right there, we find ourselves close by fairly often.
