House Cats Revolt
We have two cats: Chloe
and Lizzy Mae.

They have always
been pretty good cats and pay their rent monthly with the mice and rats
that they catch and keep out of the house. Okay, sometimes the
mice and rats are in the house, but only after they have been caught by
Lizzy Mae or Chloe. They are mainly outdoor cats, and have come in and
out freely through the magnetic cat door. That went away with the new
back door, so they come in and out when we open the door. They used to
have their favorite places to sleep- mainly on a chair, and every once
in awhile in a basket. All the chairs and furniture are put away &
they don’t seem to find the subfloor very comfortable for napping. Now
they don’t know what to do and overall they
are not very happy with us. The house is torn up, there is nowhere soft
to sleep and if a saw, hammer or drill isn’t going it’s usually the
shop vac that’s sending them back outside. This is the look we usually
get from them now.
Lizzy Mae has been quite vocal lately and in case we
could understand her complaining meows, she has also started spraying.
The first time I ever saw her do this was when we had our new neighbors
over for dinner a couple of weeks ago. Luckily she chose to spray on
the plastic covering up the stove, and our neighbors were kind enough
to claim that they both like cats and it wasn’t a big deal. I get the
point Lizzy Mae- you want your home put back together. Don’t
worry, we’re working on it!

our cat, mr. tibbs, has taken to using the dug up floor in the basement as his new litter box. i went to change his litter one night and noticed that it hadn’t even been touched once and then i went searching the dirt for little mister droppings. he’s de-clawed so he only gets to go outside on his lead and collar.

Yes- I want the house put back together & I want my very own couch with a blanket. I want my cat door back and tuna juice on all my cat food. Leave the front window open for me, and please take my bell off so I can catch more birds! MEOW!

Me too! I want a soft pillow on top of the mantel and fresh running water in my cat dish. Leave all the power tools in the shop and the only sawdust I want to see would be in a pillow- not in my food! MEOW!

One of my cats had found this spot on a box filled with styro peanuts to sleep on. It sat there for months and he slept on it 12 hours a day. After I threw it out he took up residence on my work jacket where I always throw it on a table just inside the door. Now, if I don’t throw the jacket on the table for him he runs back and forth between me and the table until I get the hint and lay the jacket down for him. Fortunately both he and the jacket are black. I think both of my cats have become accustomed to the chaos, so long as there is at least a place to sleep.

Meow! Hey Greg’s Cat! We’re thinking of forming a cat’s union over here at Pigeon Point. Since your owner Greg is remodeling his house too, you probably qualify. All we want is to be able to demand as a group that we get some fair concessions while this “remodeling” is going on. I mean, geehz, there aren’t any floors over here, much less comfortable high spots to sit on. I figure with 93 houseblogs around here, we should be able to get 50 or so cats together. What’d you say? MEOW!

Cats don’t take kindly to change, but the first thing you want to look at are medical issues. I had one of my cats for 3 years, then she started using the hallway instead of the litterbox. I did see that she was getting ambushed by the box by one of the other girls, but I also took her to my favorite “cats only” vet to be sure. She checked for infection in her urine, a common cause of inappropriate behavior. We didn’t find anything too bad, but I put her on a urinary health supplment and voila, no more problems.
Soapbox for just a minute…I would worry myself silly about my cats being outside! 2 of my cats were rescued strays (the others were surrendered or abandoned)- 1 of them was run over by a car and almost euthanized due to the damage but she purrs 24/7 and they just couldn’t do it. Another was wandering ‘bout pregnant. I do have a walled courtyard at my current house, but even there they start eating dangerous plants and one of them even caught a yellowjacket, then had facial swelling because he’s allergic! I watch them slip and fall jumping onto the furniture, I couldn’t imagine them out in the “real world.” The new “fixer upper” doesn’t have the luxary of the courtyard, so I’ve stopped letting them out at my current home because I’m very worried about them escaping! Maybe it’s because I don’t have any kids yet, but these are my babies.

Yep, she looks mad alright! Our dogs seem to like demo: eating plaster- “Stop That Billie!”, laying on drop cloths- “Mojo, move, you’re in the way!”, and the smells oh the smells!
