Pigeon Point Neighborhood - New Comminty Arts Center!

We just got back from a community event down the street at the “Old Cooper School”. “Old” Cooper School is one of those large, old, architecturally interesting brick school buildings that have stood dormant for years because… Well, most likely because there weren’t enough kids to fill it up back when it was shut down. Ironically, “New” Cooper School, which is only a few blocks away (and was built after the closed the old version in 1989), is now a potential target to be closed itself. Not enough money to run it or something.

The event today marked the groundbreaking for a complete restoration of the building, which was purchased by a community organization that raised 6.1 million dollars (!) for this and two related projects. The school in its new form will be a community arts center, offering classes for all age-groups, community theater, and integrated affordable housing for artists. We’re really excited to see this happen.

In any event, here’s a link to an article about this project, and our Pigeon Point Neighborhood.

Nice article. Next time I’m in Seattle I’d like to check out the walking trail by Longfellow creek.
