Reduce, re-use, recycle
Seattle has done a good job encouraging recycling and cutting back on garbage. Our free curbside recycling program began in 1988 and this year legislation was passed to require recycling and if you have more than 10% of recyclable matter in your garbage, then you can be ticketed. Yard waste is also prohibited and food waste can be put in the yard waste containers. (Then you can buy it back as compost for your garden!) I think they are working towards making this required, but I’d have to read more.
Anyways, Nick and his dad built a drawer system for garbage and recycling.
I love systems- especially if it has to do with organization. Mainly because I’m not the best at keeping things put away. If I have a system in place that works, then I do much better putting things away.
I’ve never had a problem putting garbage or recycling where it goes, but I love the pull out garbage recycling center that we installed in the island. Granted I lost some cupboard or drawer space, but it is nice not having the garbage and recycling sitting out. The cans stay pretty clean as well.

what a great idea! i wish that we had a better way of seperating our things, for now i just have to take all the recyclables right to their trash can.

Great idea! I live in Portland - same focus on taking care of the environment. The more requirements we have to recycle, the better.
