Slow weekend

Well, this hasn’t been an overly productive weekend in terms of the renovation, but we did get some stuff done. Trissa is is now applying the final coat of Varathane to the trim on the staircase. And this morning I did the last of the work needed for the grounding rods. Yesterday I spent a couple hours working on the mantel, stripping varnish from my plank, and trimming it to the correct size by running it through the radial arm saw. I really just want to wrap up some of these projects, so we can move onto something fresh. All three of these current projects - staircase, electrical, and fireplace, have been dragging on for months.

Dont tell Trissa, but I have a new love. Actually, she knows about it, because I cant stop talking about it. ‘It’ is a 6” random-orbit Bosch sander that I borrowed from brother-in-law Barny, who is a Bosch rep. I told him at a party last night that he wasn’t getting it back and he needed to go figure out how much $$ I owe him. I’ll do a full writeup on this tool soon - no serious woodworker should be without one. It is so smooth, and yet if you put some 60 grit paper on it and put it in “aggressive” mode, watch out: it’ll would eat through a 2x4 rather quickly if you let it.
