Weekly Poll - April 17th, 2005

Last week’s poll asks “Where do you get your DIY remodeling skills?” Obviously there are a lot of sources for learning, and our limited answer set barely begins to scratch the surface. Jeannie from House in Progress suggested that she learns a lot from volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, and from magazines like Fine Homebuilding (one of my absolute favorites…) I’m not surprised by the results though, especially that 23% of us have inherited a DIY gene from our parents. I know I have (thanks, Dad!)

It must be genetic, because my sister got it too. I also find it interesting, and perhaps not so surprising, that only 4 percent of us learn DIY remodeling skills from our jobs. Sometimes I dream of being a carpenter, but if I were I’d probably not have the inclination to come home and work on my own house.

Poll for this week: How are you primarily funding your remodel? Key word here is “primarily”, since I suspect most of us have deviated from traditional funding sources from time to time.
