Weekly Poll - April 3rd, 2005

The results are in! Nearly half of us (48%) are young and hip - 30 and under, and the greater half (53%) of us are older, wiser, and clearly still hip. None of us are mathematicians and so none of us will realize that the total adds up to 101%. (I’ll debug the poll software later…)

One third of us (33%) are equally into reading house blogs (and taking Web polls) as we are into doing the heavy lifting at home. For a quarter of us (26%) our better halves do at least half the work on the remodel. 15% of us spend our time maintaining the blog while our Sig-O provides the newsworthy content, and 19% outwardly pretend that their Sig-O is an equal partner with a hammer, but we know that in reality this just isn’t true. Two crazy folks (7%) are tackling their remodel solo!

For the next poll, we ask about the first project you undertook in your renovation (question posed by Kristin at 1902 Victorian!)

Don’t forget to vote, and don’t forget to post questions you’d like to see in future polls!

Our pollster ranks are growing – this week let’s get at least 30 votes!

If you select “other” in this week’s poll, leave us a comment and tell us what the project was.

How about a poll on how often people comment on blogs? And how many people are lurkers? (Although the lurkers may not respond!)

Coming out of lurkdom to respond to this week’s poll and last week’s. I checked “solo” last week, though that isn’t quite accurate. My dad (Boeing engineer by day) is the brains behind projects such as rewiring the entire house and replacing a window with a door. I get plenty of muscle help from friends, and had a contractor do some work for me. But they all get to go home after…

This week I’m an “other”. The very first thing I did (3 months ago) was to remove carpet and linoleum, but the poor floors can’t actually be refinished until some other things are done. The first weekend I demolished the walls and ceiling of one bedroom and commenced the rewiring. The contractor started gutting the bathroom the first week after closing. The bathroom is functional but not completely painted, and that bedroom has bare sheetrock on the ceiling (only). Scope creep is a dangerous thing.

Hi Sara! So, given that your dad is a Boeing engineer, is your house in or around Seattle? Have you got a house blog yet????

Hey Nick, I’m up in North Everett, with no hope of having a houseblog until I get some sort of internet access from home! Until then, I lurk. :)
