Weekly Poll - June 26th, 2005

I seem to have broken my routine of updating the Weekly Poll on Sunday mornings. Weekends have become days for early rising and long hours spent preparing the house for our new boiler system. This leaves very little time for browsing the Internet.

We had 30 votes this week, for our poll question “Whats the most number of trips you’ve made to the hardware store in a single day?” Three lucky people (10%) have made 7 or more trips. That’s a lot – I’m guessing they spent more time shopping than hammering. The most popular response was 3 trips, with 9 votes (30%). The three people who made only 2 or fewer trips in a single day are either mistaken or haven’t ever done any plumbing work.

Ironically, this week’s question was oddly appropriate for Trissa. (Seeing as how she made 5 trips to the HD last Friday…) Believe it or not, I’m a little sick of trips to the hardware store myself, but perhaps that’s only the ache I feel coming from my right hip pocket. It’s going to be a painful month on the old credit card.

Which brings me to this week’s poll question: How precisely do you monitor your budget for a project? I’m mostly thinking for larger projects (since they usually require some thought about the cost, at least for us…), but any size projects that you’ve worked on apply.

We’ve only been homeowners for four months and found our home improvement spendings quickly got out of hand. So in response, we now keep a monthly budget on the side of our fridge.. each time we go to the store, we write down the amount and take it off the (monthly) budget. Seems to be working so far.

Wow, Jason, what a good idea!
