Beams!

Our new parallam beams will be delivered today. I didn’t think I was that excited, but I keep looking out the window to see if the truck is near. (I also put the webcam to view the street.) These beams are to replace a structural wall in between the kitchen and dining room area. Then we will be able to finish the framing for the first floor.

One of the beams is 5.25” x 14” x 17’ and I think it will weigh about two hundred pounds. Do you think when they deliver it, they’ll bring it up the three flights to the house?

I’m curious to see how the upstairs does after the beam is installed. When we repaired the beams under the bath, the floor was pushed up quite a bit. We have a pretty crooked doorway and I’m curious to see what shifts once the floor is properly supported again. It’s a bit weird to be excited about something that we won’t see- but it will be so nice to know that the structure of the house will be even better!
