Doorknobs and entrysets
It was much easier to choose our doors than it has been to choose the hardware. We have looked at so many locksets that we’re at a point where it’s difficult to make a decision. Then we get the call from The Door Store and they need to know the specs of our locks asap so we can get our doors. So we’ve narrowed it down. There were a couple of locksets by Emtek that we liked the styling of, but we haven’t heard great things about them. The main things we’ve heard is that the hardware itself has a little more “play” than others, the finishes don’t wear that well, and that the spring mechanism often wears a bit and the levers then hang uneven (and I know we can’t live with uneven levers). They’re still an option, we just wouldn’t go with any levers, we’d only use knobs. Our top choice right now is by Baldwin. We’re thinking of the Trenton Mortise Trim for the front door

the Reading for the back door

and the Cody for the French doors.

They would all have the oil rubbed bronze finish.
The Emtek that we like is the Arts and Crafts or Craftsman entry set for the front door.

Now I need to get prices from a couple of places and see if we can afford them! Both Sun Valley Bronze and Rocky Mountain Hardware had beautiful locksets, but they were too expensive and a bit too bulky for our size door. We thought there would be more choices for the style we want. Has anyone had any better luck than us finding hardware for their doors? Since they’re exterior doors we don’t really want to use an antique one, mainly for security reasons.

I don’t know what your price points are, but these are beautiful:

Yeah, you’d have to use a seperate deadlock with an antique lockset. The top one looks a little like the one we have on our front door.

Keith- I think that’s the Baldwin craftsman. We really like the design but when we looked at it in person, it was huge. I wish I could hold them all up to the door and see what they look like!

Yeah, Keith, I like that one in the center a lot. It’s a bit out of our price range, especially considering it doesn’t appear to come with the mortise lockset (although it’s shown with a Baldwin tumbler…). It’s similar to a Baldwin model “Pasadena”, which is also pricy, and IMO, over-sized.

Emtek makes excellent products. Of all of the products that we supply, Emtek is our biggest seller and we have found that the company really stands behind their products.
My only advice if you go with Sun Valley, Rocky Mountain or Baldwin is to make sure that you used a qualified installer. Their hardware is much more intricate and harder to install. We are called on alot to make repairs to Baldwin, etc because they were installed improperly.
Drop me an email if you or any other housebloggers have specific hardware questions @ sales@specialtyhardwareoutlet.com
Great Blog by the way!!
