Disaster Area!
This is the first weekend in a while that I’ve been able to work on the house. At least, it feels that way.
Yesterday we applied some of the finishing touches to the new upstairs bath. I stripped some of the trim we have laying about and installed it around the window - it still needs to be re-painted (white). We installed the toilet-paper holder (with magazine rack - really, it’s kinda cool. It came from Pottery Barn…) And a towel hook, and a glass shelf above the sink. All that’s left is some trim around the door (needs stripping), and trim paint.
I also partially cleaned the shop, which was a disaster area. Dad is coming out at the end of February to help build kitchen cabinets, and the shop needs to be ready. The main problem is I have too many materials piled around. Not sure yet what to do with everything. On top of that I moved most of my tools back downstairs. For the last 8 months we’ve had a mini-shop in one corner of the kitchen. It too was a disaster area, and had a lot of tools that we aren’t needing anymore upstairs. So I took the majority of them back downstairs and all put away. We couldn’t stop cleaning with just that corner of the kitchen, so today we cleaned the entire first floor, which was disaster area #3. It’s so nice now we’re ready to have company for dinner.
So what’s next? It’s Sunday night now so probably not much more this weekend. I have to finish the cabinet designs and order the plywood to build the carcasses. If I get lucky, maybe I’ll find time and energy this week.

Sounds like you needed some time to clean up the house after all that work! We’re going through a similar (although not as intense) clean up as we finish phase 1 of our front of the house realignment. The contractor can’t do anything else until the weather warms up a little and he feels like climbing on our new roof to put a second floor deck down, so we are cleaning up and putting things back in order. It’s overwhelming at times, as the work went into several rooms so they all are a mess! Good luck!

So if you’re building kitchen cabinets, I think it’s time to get a new tablesaw too. I’ll be interested in seeing your designs. I’ve been designing a bathroom vanity, it looks more like furniture, kind of like some of the new Ikea vanities. We haven’t decided what kind of wood to use though.

You read my mind, Derek. I’ve been shopping…
