I've wanted to do this since I bought the house!

Demolition day was yesterday and we continued pulling out lathe nails today. We cleaned up the back yard and put more stuff in the dumpster and then my body said it was time to quit. At 4 o’clock I was about ready for a nap, and Nick was dying to take apart the furnace room in the basement.

So he did.

It needs to be done while we have the dumpster, we just can’t disconnect the furnace and hot water heater yet, but we’ll be ready when the time comes. I just wish I had the same energy. Way to go Nick!

Ummmm, you are aware that by removing the lathe you may have to shim the studs or lay straps across them in order to get the drywall to hang straight, right?

Yeah, Gary, I expect there will be a number of things we’ll get to “adjust for”. The house isn’t exactly sqare anymore, if it ever was.

We had to do alot of shimming in our kitchen to get the moulding at the right level. Plaster is thicker than dry wall. C’est la vie!
