Trim, then windows?
Last week Nick finished installing the trim for all the first floor doorways. The most time consuming was the trim for the 1/2 bath, since it has a pocket door. It matches the door to the pantry, so he had to install the hardware for the door as well. It sure is nice to be able to close and lock the bathroom door! (I’m sure that will be even better once Atticus is old enough to open the door!)
We went around town and looked at some options for windows. We’ll be getting double hung windows to match the design of the original windows. On the second floor we have aluminum clad windows that were probably installed in the 60’s. The archive photo shows the original double hung windows.
We weren’t impressed with many of the choices out there, but there are still a few to look at. We have someone from Renewal by Anderson coming out for a quote in a couple of weeks. We’ve heard they are a bit expensive, but the quality looked pretty good.
Then we get to make many decisions about the siding. In the archive photo below you can see what was original- we have to replace quite a bit of the wood, so we’ll see what we decide on. On choice would be to change the siding on the dormers to be vertical. (We know that the old shake siding is toast and can’t be saved.) Sorry about the poor quality of the photo, for some reason I couldn’t get a better one uploaded.
Choices, choices, choices… but the transformation will be huge!

How do you like the pocket door in your bathroom? I went through your site looking for pix of it.. didn’t find any, but WOW! you guys are doing a fabulous job! everything looks gorgeous!! Your kitchen is amazing!
I’m running out of adjectives, so I’ll get back to my question :)
We’re thinking of putting in a pocket door for our bathroom and I’m a little unsure about it. The pocket doors I can recall seem so flimsy..Is the locking mechanism sturdy? Does it feel as solid as a regular door?
thanks for your thoughts, -i

I really like the pocket door. We bought a solid wood door that matched the other doors and the sliding mechanism is very solid. It took awhile to find a lock that we liked, but we’re happy with it. I’ll see if I can find out the name of the hardware and lock. I’ll take some pictures tomorrow and put up another post- I hadn’t realized that we didn’t have any final pictures of them!

Thanks Trissa, the solid wood door sounds key..
We still have plenty ‘o time before touching the door, so if you find the name of the hardware I’d definitely be interested
I look forward to the pix, I’m sure it’ll be as gorgeous as everything else!
