We're still here...
Fall is usually busy. Being a teacher includes all the back-to-school stuff, extra planning, progress reports went home last week and I have teacher-parent conferences this week. The stomach flu hit us a couple of weeks ago and things are just now starting to settle down.
We’ve (meaning Nick) have managed to get a couple of more minor things accomplished:
- There is now a board under the concrete countertop where the dishwasher goes so it stays put when you open and close the door.
- Nick has taken some old fir boards from the house and cleaned them up, put them through the planer and joiner, and glued them together. These will be used when he does a trial run and builds a window so we can decide if that’s the route we’d like to go instead of replacing the windows with new ones.
- The van is empty of all the stuff that needed to go to the dump.
- There is now a timer for the fan in the 1/2 bath on the first floor.
- The hallway light upstairs was acting strangely, so it has new electrical components.
- The hardware is installed on the cabinet doors and drawers. There are still some panels to be made, but we’re closer to our final round of varnishing.
I’m hoping one of these days we’ll find a horizontal surface that we can use to sand the slate with, then we can build the frame and install it in the upstairs hallway.
Things will calm down a bit at work after this week and I’m hoping to make some progress on our list of smaller things that need to get done.
So, we haven’t disappeared, we’re just moving slowly on the renovation stuff right now.
Maybe daylight saving time will help?

I’ll be interested to see how the windows work out. I thought of doing the same thing, I’m not quite that confident in my woodwork skills yet, although, after a few more projects, who knows. We want to go with Marvin, we’ll see if we can afford them though.
